Our History and who We Are

Spirit Filled Church is a fully functioning Independent Assemblies of God church with a diverse and multi-cultural congregation. Each Sunday our 600-seat sanctuary is filled with people of all ages, religious backgrounds and walks of life, all united by our mutual love for Jesus Christ and for each other. Spirit Filled Church actively ministers to every age group through Sunday School, Children’s Church, Royal Rangers and Missionettes (Girls Ministries) , a dynamic youth group, and the men’ and women’s ministries. Other areas of ministry include our home groups, parenting classes, the food ministry, parish nurse, and our transportation ministry.

Our Beginning

The Church of Jesus Christ Spirit Filled began in May, 1990, because of a vision God had given Pastor Roger to impact the Reno-Sparks area for Jesus Christ. That first service a handful of people gathered in an empty garage to praise and worship the Lord. Our first church building was a storefront on Greenbrae Drive in Sparks. This was followed by moves to Pyramid Way and later to Oddie Boulevard. In the latter part of 2005 we were blessed to be able to purchase our present, beautiful church building on Goldy Way with plenty of room for future growth and expansion. We now are called “Spirit Filled Church”.

Our Mission and Values

The Lord Jesus Christ – Christ birthed His Church with His own innocent blood, directing the building and completion of His Church through the Holy Spirit. Thus our highest purpose is to honor and exalt Jesus Christ in everything we say and do.

The Word – The Bible is God’s written Word to man. Therefore we understand that our teachings and conduct must be fully based upon, and grounded in, the Holy Scriptures (2 Timothy 3:16; Colossians 3:16).

Prayer and Intercession – We believe that both personal and corporate prayer are essential to the success of the Church. Since prayer is a pipeline through which the Holy Spirit moves, a major focus of our church is to pray without ceasing (Isaiah 56:7; 1 Thessalonians 5:17; James 5:16).

Praise and Worship – We believe that the pattern for New Testament worship is the Davidic order of worship which is described in the Psalms and is characterized by such scriptural expressions as singing, clapping, lifting hands, bowing and kneeling (Psalm 68:4; 95:6; 99:5; 107:32; 150; John 4:23-24).

Evangelism – We seek to extend the kingdom of God through this local church body to our cities, our nation and to the world (Matthew 28:19-20). Discipleship – We are committed to teaching believers to grow to spiritual maturity (Ephesians 4:15). Service – We desire to help all believers find their giftings and areas of ministry within the Church (1 Peter 4:10).
